Music video Analysis

Goodwin and
Levi Strauss

This video definitely follows a amplifying structure as it is following the story of a destructive love.
The video shows binary oppositions in the cut away scenes. The cutaway scenes where the heart is set on fire are meant to represent hell, which is where the actor goes after committing suicide.
Sepia’s and colours
The color saturation is warm and has an orange hue in the cutaway scenes that show Leona lip syncing. In the story scenes, with the man and the woman in a relationship, the hue is blue and dreary conotating cynicism and foreshadowing the death that is to come. Another demonstration of binary positions is shown through the deep orange saturation in the cutaway scenes that are meant to depict hell (hence the heart is on fire). Colorful hues of this sort are normally used to portray love and happy memories- not death and after life as it is in this case. The producers may have used the reds and oranges to signify the sin of suicide instead.

'Skins' TV Drama - Digital Essay

The following and the above stills are all taken from season 1 of 'Skins', so right from the beggining, the producer is developing a stereotype of teenagers. This still is a full body shot, so the audience can see the girls outfit and make a judgement. The fact that she's looking dishevelled, waeing smeared makeup and is only just comming home in the morning, conotes that she's been partying all night. This immediatley conforms to the negative stereotype the media potray of teenagers.
